Track Season for All Students Begins April 3rd!
Track season is almost here! For our Hornets who have been waiting for the spring weather and track season, sign-up forms are ready for you! You may pick them up on the student information table in the commons, in the front office, or from Mr. Hickman. There are multiple forms that must be turned in by our first meeting on March 21st, so get started early. McCarty's track season begins April 3rd! In-District Transfers Accepted March 1-31, 2017
The Gresham-Barlow School District will accept in-district transfer requests for the 2017-2018 school year during the month of March only.  If you live within the district and want your child to attend a Gresham-Barlow school outside of your attendance area, you need to request an in-district transfer.  If your student currently has an in-district transfer and is moving from elementary to middle or middle to high, please submit a new request.
 
Transfer request forms will be available:
1. The district website: http://gresham.k12.or.us
2. The main office at any GBSD school
3. The district office.

Your completed form can be dropped off at any GBSD school, faxed to 503.261.4553, mailed to the district office at 1331 NW Eastman Parkway, Gresham 97030, or emailed to hartsock@gresham.k12.or.us in time to arrive by March 31, 2017.

                                                                                       
You will be notified in writing after review of all requests.  Please note: kindergarten and first grade requests may not be decided upon until late summer after elementary registration. For further information, contact the Gresham-Barlow School District Office at 503-261-4550.
 
El Distrito Escolar Gresham-Barlow aceptará solicitudes para transferencias dentro del distrito para el año escolar 2017-2018 durante el mes de Marzo solamente.  Si ustedes viven adentro del distrito y quieren que su hijo(a) asista a una de las escuelas de Gresham-Barlow afuera del área de su vecindario, necesitan una solicitud de transferencia del distrito. Si su estudiante tiene una transferencia dentro del distrito corrientemente y pasará de primaria a secundaria o de secundaria a preparatoria ustedes deben entregar una nueva solicitud.  
 
Formularios de solicitud para transferencias estarán disponibles el Martes 1º de Marzo del 2017 (1) en la oficina principal de cualquier escuela de GBSD, (2) en la oficina del distrito o (3) el sitio web del distrito: http://gresham.k12.or.us vean “Recursos para padres”.  Su formulario completado puede ser dejado en cualquier escuela de GBSD, enviado por FAX al (503) 261-4553, o mandado por correo a la oficina del distrito 1331 NW Eastman Parkway, Gresham 97030 o a hartsock@gresham.k12.or.us  para que llegue en la fecha del 31 de Marzo del 2017.

Sodexo Ala Carte Selections

Parents/Guardians – Is your student snacking during breakfast or lunch?  If so…is it a “Smart Snack”? At Dexter McCarty​ we ensure that all ala carte snacks and beverages are compliant with the Healthy Hungry Free Kids Act, which means that ala carte items sold during the school day must meet USDA nutritional standards.  During breakfast and lunch, students at our middle schools are offered and allowed to purchase a maximum of two ala carte items to enhance their school meal or their meal from home.   

By providing students additional options during meal service we hope to encourage students to make healthier choices that still provide the nutrition needed to be successful in the classroom.  

 

If you wish to limit your student from purchasing ala carte snacks, please contact your kitchen manager at mazzucca@gresham.k12.or.us.

En Dexter McCarty, nos aseguramos de que todos los bocadillos y bebidas ala carte cumplan con la Ley de Niños Saludables y Libres de Hambre (Healthy Hungry Free Kids Act), cual significa que los artículos de comida, ala carte, que son vendidos durante el día escolar deben cumplir con los estándares nutricionales del USDA. Norovirus Prevention Tips
A Norovirus strain is expected to hit hard this year. Following is information from our school nurse to help prevent the spread of the Norovirus. The 'stomach bug' (an example; the Norovirus) can cause severe onset of vomiting, diarrhea episodes, dehydration & stomach pain/cramping. The Center for Disease Control recommends: 
  • WASH HANDS for 20 seconds, especially before preparing foods & after toileting
  • CLEAN SURFACES - Use bleach-based cleaner or other disinfectant
  • WASH LAUNDRY - Remove & wash soiled linens and clothes immediately
  • USE GLOVES to pick up soiled materials or when wiping down counters
  • STAY HOME WHEN SICK and stay home 2 days more after symptoms of nausea, vomiting,stomach pain stop.  Avoid contact directly with others, as the norovirus can be spread long after symptoms are gone, up to two weeks.

McCarty Students Attending High School Games/Events

We invite & encourage McCarty's students and families to support our high school sports, events, athletes, and artists! Please remember that middle school students must be accompanied by an adult when attending all high school athletic events and activities. In addition, students must be seated in the bleachers. New Student Checklist for Enrollment
- Completed Registration Packet
- Proof of residency for an address in the Dexter McCarty Middle School attendance area
- Birth Certificate or other acceptable proof of age document (passport, baptismal certificate, etc.)
- Proof of immunization. If student is coming from another state or country, a new form must be completed
   and signed.

Please be prepared to pay school fees prior to the student starting school.

Free & Reduced Application Due Date Friday, October 21st
Notice to all parents/guardians – Free & Reduced applications from the 2015-2016 school year expired Friday October 21st. If you have not yet completed and submitted a new application for the 2016-2017 school year, please do so either via paper application or online submission at www.mymealtime.com.
